This image resizer changes the size of a photo in pixels or as a percentage and crops it to the part you want, freely or to a fixed ratio such as square or 16:9. Save the result as JPG, PNG or WebP.
How to use the Image Resizer & Cropper
- 1 Drop an image on the box or click to choose it.
- 2 Pick a crop ratio and drag the box (or its corners) over the part you want to keep.
- 3 Enter the width or height, choose the format and click Download image.
Worked examples
Input: Crop 1:1, width 400 px
Result: A 400 × 400 square
Most social networks use square profile images.
Input: Crop 16:9, width 1920 px
Result: A 1920 × 1080 banner
How to resize an image
Enter a new width or height in pixels. With "Keep proportions" ticked the other side follows automatically, so the picture is never stretched. The 25%, 50% and 75% buttons shrink the image in one click. Large reductions are done in several halving steps, which keeps fine detail and avoids the jagged look of a single big downscale.
How to crop an image
Choose a crop shape: free, square (1:1), 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or portrait 9:16. A box appears over the image: drag it to move it and drag its corners to make it bigger or smaller. With a fixed ratio, the box keeps its shape while you resize it. You can also nudge it with the arrow keys (hold Shift for bigger steps). "No crop" uses the whole image again.
Common sizes
- Profile pictures: square, 400 to 800 px.
- Website banners and video thumbnails: 16:9, for example 1920 × 1080 or 1280 × 720.
- Instagram portrait posts: 4:5, for example 1080 × 1350 (use Free crop).
- Email attachments: a width of 1600 to 2000 px is plenty for a screen.
Resize an image to a size in KB
Need a file under a size in KB rather than exact pixels, for example "photo under 100 KB"? Use the image compressor with a target size, or the ready-made pages to compress an image to 20KB, 50KB or 100KB. If a form asks for both pixels and KB, resize and crop here first, then compress.
Format and quality
Keep the original format, or save as JPG (smallest for photos), PNG (lossless, keeps transparency) or WebP (small and modern). For JPG and WebP the quality slider sets the balance between size and detail.
Private by design
Your images are processed by your own browser and never uploaded to a server, so they stay on your device. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many images you convert.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make an image bigger?
Yes, by entering a larger width, but enlarging cannot add detail, so the result may look soft.
How do I crop a photo to a square?
Choose 1:1, drag the box over the part you want and download.
Will the image be stretched?
Not while "Keep proportions" is ticked. Untick it only if you want to change the shape.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Resizing and cropping happen in your browser.
