You can also drop a file onto the box. Everything is converted in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Preview (first 50 rows)
This CSV to Excel converter turns comma, semicolon or tab separated text into a real Excel XLSX workbook. Paste the data or open a file, check the preview and download a spreadsheet that opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers.
How to use the CSV to Excel Converter
- 1 Paste your CSV into the box, or click Open file to load a .csv file.
- 2 Check the preview; the separator is detected automatically, or choose it yourself.
- 3 Click Download Excel (.xlsx).
Worked examples
Input: orders.csv with a semicolon separator
Result: orders.xlsx with one column per field
No need to use Excel's import wizard.
Input: 00501, 02134
Result: Kept as 00501 and 02134
Values with leading zeros stay text so the zeros are not lost.
How to convert CSV to Excel
Opening a CSV file in Excel by double-clicking often goes wrong: everything lands in one column, accents are garbled or leading zeros disappear. Converting it to a proper XLSX file first avoids all of that.
The converter reads the text with PapaParse, a robust CSV parser that understands quoted values, commas inside quotes and line breaks within a cell. It works out the separator by itself (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe), and you can override it if the guess is wrong. The rows are then written into a real Excel workbook with SheetJS, with column widths fitted to the content.
Numbers, dates and leading zeros
With "Store numbers as numbers" ticked, cells that are clearly numbers become real numbers in Excel, so you can add them up and sort them. Values that would be damaged by that stay text:
- numbers with leading zeros, such as zip codes, phone numbers and product codes;
- numbers longer than 15 digits, such as card or account numbers, which Excel would round.
Dates are kept exactly as they are written. Untick the option to keep every cell as text.
Sheet name
The workbook contains one sheet, named Sheet1 unless you type another name (up to 31 characters, the Excel limit).
Private by design
The file is read and converted by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so it is safe to use with customer lists, finance exports and other internal data. Large files simply take a moment longer on a slower computer.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my CSV open in a single column in Excel?
Excel guesses the separator from your language settings. Converting the CSV to XLSX here avoids the guess: each value gets its own column.
Will leading zeros be kept?
Yes. Values such as 00123 are stored as text so the zeros stay.
How large a CSV can I convert?
Tens of thousands of rows convert in a second or two. Very large files depend on your computer's memory, because everything happens in the browser.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
