Shopping a sale? Enter the original price and the discount to see exactly what you will pay — and how much you keep in your pocket. Stacked offers like "30% off, plus an extra 10%" are handled correctly.

How to use the Discount Calculator

  1. 1 Enter the original (list) price.
  2. 2 Enter the discount percentage, and an extra discount if the offer stacks.
  3. 3 See the final price, total savings and the effective overall discount.

Formula

Final price = Price × (1 − D1 ÷ 100) × (1 − D2 ÷ 100)
Savings = Price − Final price

Worked examples

Simple sale

Input: $80 with 25% off

Result: $60.00

You save $20.00

Stacked offer

Input: $120, 30% off + extra 10%

Result: $75.60

Effective discount is 37%, not 40%

Why stacked discounts are not additive

"30% off plus an extra 10% off" sounds like 40%, but the second discount applies to the already-reduced price: 0.70 × 0.90 = 0.63, so you pay 63% of the original — an effective discount of 37%.

Discount vs. coupon codes

Fixed-amount coupons ($10 off) and percentage discounts behave differently: a fixed coupon is worth more on cheap items, a percentage discount is worth more on expensive ones. When you can choose the order, apply percentage discounts before fixed coupons if the shop allows it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate 20% off a price?

Multiply the price by 0.80. A $45 item at 20% off costs $36.

How do I find the original price from the sale price?

Divide the sale price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). $36 after 20% off was originally $36 ÷ 0.8 = $45.

Is sales tax included?

No — add tax afterwards with the Sales Tax Calculator, since tax is normally charged on the discounted price.
