Squared units grow fast
Because area has two dimensions, conversion factors are squared: 1 m = 3.28 ft, but 1 m² = 3.28² ≈ 10.76 ft². Never use a length factor to convert an area.
Acres and hectares
An acre (about 4,047 m²) is roughly 63.6 m × 63.6 m — a little smaller than an American football field without end zones. A hectare is exactly 100 m × 100 m, about 2.47 acres.
