Worked examples

Pricing table

Input: Plan | Price / Basic | $9

The first row becomes the table header.

Email newsletter

Input: Styling: simple borders and padding

Result: Inline styles on every cell

Inline styles survive email clients that strip style sheets.

How to convert Excel to an HTML table

Copying cells from Excel into a web editor often brings a mess of hidden formatting along. This converter writes clean, minimal HTML instead: a <table> with a <thead> for the header row and a <tbody> for the data, one <tr> per row.

Every cell's text is escaped, so characters such as <, > and & display correctly and can never break your page. Values are written as Excel displays them, so currencies, percentages and dates look exactly as in the sheet.

Styled or plain

  • Plain HTML has no styling at all, so your website's own CSS controls the look. This is best for sites and themes that already style tables.
  • Simple borders and padding adds small inline styles to the table and cells. Inline styles work almost everywhere, including email newsletters, where style sheets are often removed.

Accessible tables

Marking the first row as a header produces real <th> cells, which screen readers announce as column headings and search engines understand as the table's structure. Keep "First row is a header" ticked whenever your sheet has column titles.

What is not converted

Merged cells, colours, formulas and charts are not carried over; the HTML contains the values of each cell. Hidden rows and columns are included, so delete what you do not need in Excel first.

Private by design

The file is read and converted by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so it is safe to use with customer lists, finance exports and other internal data. Large files simply take a moment longer on a slower computer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste the HTML into WordPress?

Yes. Switch the block or editor to HTML or Code view and paste the table.

Will the table look the same as in Excel?

The values will. Colours, fonts and merged cells are not converted; use the simple styling option or your own CSS for the look.

Is the HTML safe to paste into my site?

Yes. All cell text is escaped, so it cannot inject scripts or break your layout.

Is my spreadsheet uploaded?

No. It is converted in your browser.
