How to use the PNG to JPG Converter

    1. 1 Drop one or more PNG images on the box, or click to choose them.
    2. 2 Adjust the quality and the background colour for transparent areas if you like.
    3. 3 Download each image, or click Download all.

    Worked examples

    Large screenshot

    Input: screenshot.png, 2.4 MB

Result: screenshot.jpg, about 400 KB at quality 92

Photos and screenshots shrink the most.

    Logo with transparency

Input: logo.png with a transparent background

    Result: logo.jpg on white

JPG has no transparency, so the background colour you choose fills it.

    Why convert PNG to JPG?

PNG is lossless: it stores every pixel exactly, which makes it ideal for logos, icons and text, but large for photos. JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photographs and is typically 5 to 10 times smaller for the same picture. Converting PNG to JPG makes images faster to upload, email and load on websites, and some forms and services only accept JPG.

How the PNG to JPG converter works

Your browser decodes each PNG, draws it on a canvas and encodes it as a JPG at the quality you choose. Quality 92 is the default: visually identical to the original for nearly all images. Lower values give smaller files; around 80 is a good balance for web use.

    Transparent areas

JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent parts of a PNG are filled with the background colour you pick, white by default, so a logo on a transparent background becomes a logo on white. Keep the PNG if you need the transparency.

    When to keep PNG

Text, line art, charts and images with sharp edges can show small blurry artefacts around edges as JPG. For those, PNG or WebP is the better choice; JPG is best for photos.

    Private by design

Your images are processed by your own browser and never uploaded to a server, so they stay on your device. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many images you convert.

    Frequently asked questions

Is JPG the same as JPEG?

Yes. JPG and JPEG are two spellings of the same format; the files are identical.

    What happens to transparency?

JPG cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default).

    Which quality should I choose?

92 looks identical to the original; 80 to 85 is a good balance for websites; below 70 compression marks may become visible.

Can I convert many images at once?

Yes. Drop several files and use Download all.
