Why convert JPG to PNG?
Every time a JPG is edited and saved again, it is compressed again and loses a little more detail. PNG is lossless: converting to PNG first means further edits never lose quality. PNG is also required by some upload forms, design tools and app stores, and it is the right format before adding transparency in an editor.
How the JPG to PNG converter works
Your browser decodes the JPG and saves the pixels as a PNG, exactly as they are. Nothing is lost in the conversion. Photos taken on a phone are turned upright, because their rotation is read from the EXIF data.
Will the file get bigger?
Usually, yes. PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away detail the eye barely notices, so a photo as PNG is often 3 to 5 times larger. That is expected; it is the price of lossless storage. For sharing photos, JPG or WebP stay the better choice.
Can PNG bring back lost quality?
No. Converting cannot restore detail that JPG compression already removed; the PNG looks exactly like the JPG it came from. What it guarantees is that no further quality is lost from now on.
Private by design
Your images are processed by your own browser and never uploaded to a server, so they stay on your device. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many images you convert.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. The PNG looks exactly like the JPG; it only prevents further loss when you edit and save again.
Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless and stores every pixel exactly, while JPG compresses photos by discarding detail. A larger file is normal.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has the same solid background. Remove the background in an editor afterwards if you need it.
Can I convert several JPGs at once?
Yes. Drop several files and use Download all.
