How to compress an image to 50KB
The tool searches for the highest quality that still fits under 50 KB. It first lowers the JPG quality step by step; only if the image is still too large at a low quality does it reduce the pixel dimensions, just enough to fit. So you get the sharpest image the limit allows, without trial and error.
Where a 50KB limit is common
Many online forms ask for a photo between 20 and 50 KB: exam registrations, job portals, ID cards, admission and scholarship forms. 50 KB is enough for a clear face photo of around 600 to 800 pixels, which is more than the forms display.
For the best photo, use a plain light background, face the light, and crop to head and shoulders before compressing. If the form also gives pixel dimensions (for example 200 × 230), resize the photo to those first with the image resizer, then compress it here: a small image easily fits in 50 KB at high quality.
Tips for the best result
- Crop first. Cutting away empty background leaves more of the 50 KB for what matters. Use the image resizer & cropper, then compress here.
- Choose JPG for photos. It is accepted by every upload form and gives the smallest files for photos. PNG keeps transparency but needs more space.
- Check the exact limit. We count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes and stay under it, so the result is accepted whether a website counts 1,000 or 1,024 bytes per KB.
- Different limit? Type any size in the KB box; the image is recompressed instantly.

Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to 50KB?
Drop the image on this page. The size is preset to 50 KB, so the compressed image is ready to download straight away.
Will the image look worse at 50KB?
For a face or ID photo, no: 50 KB keeps a clear, sharp picture at the size forms display. Only very large photos are scaled down, and only as much as needed.
Can I compress several images at once?
Yes. Drop several images; each is compressed to the limit and you can download them one by one or all together.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, which matters for ID photos, signatures and documents.
