    What is WebP?

WebP is an image format from Google that makes pictures 25 to 35% smaller than JPG or PNG at the same quality. Most websites now serve WebP, so images you save from the web often end up as .webp files. Browsers open them without trouble, but some older editors, office programs, printers and upload forms do not.

How the WebP to PNG converter works

Your browser decodes the WebP image and saves its pixels as a lossless PNG. Transparency is kept, so logos and stickers with a transparent background stay transparent. Animated WebP files are converted to a still PNG of their first frame.

    PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG when the image has transparency, sharp edges or text, or when you want to edit it further without any loss. For photos you mainly want to share, the WebP to JPG converter gives much smaller files.

    File size

The PNG is often larger than the WebP, because WebP compresses more efficiently. That is normal and the picture is exactly the same.

    Private by design

Your images are processed by your own browser and never uploaded to a server, so they stay on your device. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many images you convert.

    Frequently asked questions

The PNG contains the first frame of the animation.

Can I convert many WebP files at once?
