How to compress an image to 100KB

The tool searches for the highest quality that still fits under 100 KB. It first lowers the JPG quality step by step; only if the image is still too large at a low quality does it reduce the pixel dimensions, just enough to fit. So you get the sharpest image the limit allows, without trial and error.

Where a 100KB limit is common

A 100 KB limit is typical for scanned documents and photos on visa, university, job and bank applications, and for profile pictures on many websites. At 100 KB a photo can keep about 1,000 to 1,400 pixels across, so faces, product details and printed text on ID cards and certificates stay sharp and readable.

For documents, photograph the page flat and straight from above in even light, crop the edges, then compress. Text needs contrast more than pixels, so a well-lit scan stays perfectly readable at 100 KB.

    Tips for the best result

    • Crop first. Cutting away empty background leaves more of the 100 KB for what matters. Use the image resizer & cropper, then compress here.
    • Choose JPG for photos. It is accepted by every upload form and gives the smallest files for photos. PNG keeps transparency but needs more space.
    • Check the exact limit. We count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes and stay under it, so the result is accepted whether a website counts 1,000 or 1,024 bytes per KB.
    • Different limit? Type any size in the KB box; the image is recompressed instantly.

    Private by design

Your images are processed by your own browser and never uploaded to a server, so they stay on your device. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many images you convert.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 100KB?

Drop the image on this page. The size is preset to 100 KB, so the compressed image is ready to download straight away.

Will the image look worse at 100KB?

Usually not visibly. 100 KB is enough for a sharp photo of about a thousand pixels across, and for readable scans of ID cards and documents.

Can I compress several images at once?

Yes. Drop several images; each is compressed to the limit and you can download them one by one or all together.

    Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, which matters for ID photos, signatures and documents.
