0 chars

Paste a Base64 string to reveal the original text. Standard and URL-safe alphabets are both accepted, and missing padding is fixed automatically.

How to use the Base64 Decoder

  1. 1 Paste the Base64 string.
  2. 2 The decoded text appears instantly.
  3. 3 If the data is binary rather than text, you will see a warning with a preview.

Worked examples

Decode

Input: SGVsbG8sIFdvcmxkIQ==

Result: Hello, World!

URL-safe

Input: aMOpbGxvIOKckw

Result: héllo ✓

No padding needed

Decoding JWTs

A JSON Web Token has three URL-safe Base64 parts separated by dots. Paste the middle part (the payload) here to read its claims. Remember that decoding does not verify the signature.

"Not valid Base64" errors

Base64 only contains A–Z, a–z, 0–9, +, / (or - and _) and = padding. Spaces and line breaks are ignored; any other character means the string is corrupted or not Base64.

Runs locally

Everything happens in your browser — nothing you paste is uploaded or logged, so it is safe to use with API responses, tokens and internal data.

Frequently asked questions

Can I decode an image from Base64?

This tool decodes to text. Binary data such as images is detected and shown only as a preview.

What is a data URI?

A string like data:text/plain;base64,SGk= — the prefix is stripped automatically.

Is decoding the same as decrypting?

No. Base64 is a reversible encoding with no key; anyone can decode it.
