How to use the Base64 to Image Converter

  1. 1 Paste the Base64 text or data URI into the box.
  2. 2 The image appears with its format, size and dimensions.
  3. 3 Click Download image to save it.

Worked examples

Data URI from CSS

Input: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgo…

Result: A PNG image to download

Plain Base64 from an API

Input: /9j/4AAQSkZJRg…

Result: A JPG image

The format is recognised from the data itself.

How to convert Base64 to an image

Images are often stored or sent as Base64 text: in API responses, JSON files, databases, CSS and HTML. The Base64 to image converter turns that text back into a real image you can view and save.

Paste either a full data URI (data:image/png;base64,…) or only the Base64 part. The tool decodes it in your browser and recognises the image type from the data itself (PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, BMP, ICO or SVG), so it works even when the type prefix is missing or wrong.

Common problems

  • Missing characters: Base64 copied from a log or a terminal is sometimes cut off. If the image does not appear, check that you copied the whole string.
  • Line breaks and spaces are removed automatically.
  • URL-safe Base64, which uses - and _ instead of + and /, is converted automatically.
  • Not an image: if the text decodes but the data is not a picture, the tool says so instead of showing a broken image.

Privacy

Base64 strings can contain screenshots, signatures or ID photos. Because decoding happens entirely in your browser, the data never leaves your device.

Private by design

Your images are processed by your own browser and never uploaded to a server, so they stay on your device. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many images you convert.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the "data:image/…;base64," part?

No. Plain Base64 works too; the image type is recognised from the data.

Why does my image not appear?

The text is probably incomplete or not an image. Copy the whole string, including its end.

Which formats can it decode?

PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, BMP, ICO and SVG.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Decoding happens in your browser.
