ASCII and Unicode

ASCII defines codes 0–127 for English letters, digits, punctuation and control characters. Unicode extends this to over a million code points covering every writing system and emoji; the first 128 Unicode code points are identical to ASCII. Characters outside ASCII are shown with their Unicode code point.

Character Decimal Hex Binary
A 65 41 01000001
a 97 61 01100001
0 48 30 00110000
space 32 20 00100000
