Replace every occurrence of a word or pattern in seconds. Switch on regular expressions for advanced edits such as reordering names or reformatting dates.
How to use the Find and Replace
- 1 Paste your text.
- 2 Enter what to find and what to replace it with.
- 3 Choose options such as whole words or regex; the result and match count update live.
Worked examples
Input: Find "colour", replace "color"
Result: All occurrences replaced
Case-insensitive by default
Input: Find (\w+) (\w+), replace $2, $1
Result: "John Smith" → "Smith, John"
Capture groups
Using regular expressions
With Use regex enabled, the find box accepts JavaScript regular expressions and the replacement can reference captured groups: $1, $2, named groups with $<name>, and the whole match with $&. Test complex patterns in the Regex Tester first.
Whole-word matching
"Whole word" prevents replacing cat inside category or concatenate. It works with any language's letters, not just English.
Private by design
All processing happens in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, logged or stored on a server.
Frequently asked questions
How do I replace text with a line break?
Enable regex and use \n in the replacement… or simply edit the output afterwards.
Is matching case-sensitive?
Not by default. Tick "Case sensitive" to match exact capitalisation.
Can I undo a replacement?
Your original text stays untouched in the input box; only the output changes.
